3 Steps for Improving Business Results in 2013

3 Tips for Business Results in 2013

Every January people make the requisite list of resolutions –  things to change in their personal or work lives. Lose weight, go to the gym, spend more time with family. By the end of February, most are abandoned. Here are three steps that don’t involve food, exercise, or elementary school band concerts, are simple and actually enjoyable—and they’ll improve your business results because they’ll improve your networking skills and relationships.

1)       Learn Something New Every Week

  1. Head over to your local book store and read a magazine about an unfamiliar topic.
  2.  Ask personal questions of the people you meet at networking events – what are their hobbies? What styles of music do they like the best? Do they have a favorite restaurant?
  3. What does your competitor do differently, and does it make sense for you to change?

2)      Give Back

  1. Find a cause that matters to you and donate funds or your time as a mentor or volunteer.
  2. Share what you learn in step #1 with the rest of your team and encourage them to learn and share, too.
  3. Honor even the smallest successes – for yourself and for everyone with whom you interact.

3)      Make Planning a Weekly, 1-hour Event in Your Office

  1. What worked?
  2. What didn’t work?
  3. What are the “lessons learned,” both positive and negative?
  4. What can you do differently?

Simple enough?  We think so. So go on out there and do it.

Here’s to your business success in 2013!
